Artistic Wood Pieces, Turned Bowls

Description

Handcrafted from a fallen Rewarewa tree, this large Rewarewa bowl reveals the fascinating grain and unusual colours of one of our iconic native trees. I’ve deliberately shaped the rim with the ends higher than the sides to add interest and accentuate the unique grain patterns. Careful design, high quality turning, painstaking shaping and a very smooth finish make this bowl both interesting and beautiful. Give it pride of place on your dining room table, shelf, dresser, coffee table or wherever and it will be a talking point. However, it’s also designed to be functional and is ideal for potato chips, salads, veges and as a fruit bowl. Alternatively fill it with potpourri.

One of the characteristics of Rewarewa is the interwoven, flecked grain and prominent medullary rays. (http://nzforests.co.nz/native-timber/rewarewa/ ) I’ve turned this bowl to showcase the very unusual and contrasting open and tightly woven patterns in the wood. Scan over the main picture and you’ll see how much the grain pattern changes as you move from one part of the bowl to another.

The bowl is finished with a natural beeswax polish  that we make ourselves from wax from our own hives. This nourishes and protects the wood and seals out moisture.

Buy one for yourself or give one as a beautiful and thoughtful gift to someone you love.
