Description
Kauri Koru Wing with Suspended Puriri Lidded Bowl
This stunning art piece is a Puriri bowl suspended from a Kauri wing carved in a koru shape, with a Puriri lid and a Kauri finial (the sticky up piece for the uninitiated!). There is a delightful contrast between the honey brown coloured Kauri wing and finial and the dark Puriri bowl and lid.
Careful design, contrasting coloured woods, high quality turning and a very smooth finish make this bowl a delight to pick up, look at and caress. Give it pride of place on your dining room table, mantlepiece, dresser or wherever and it will immediately be a talking point. Display this as an art piece, put your jewellery in, your keys or fill it with peanuts! – whatever you like. Whatever you do with it, you’ll have plenty of people admiring this absolutely unique art piece.
Buy this wood art for yourself or give it as a beautiful, thoughtful and treasured gift.
The beautiful honey coloured Kauri wing was turned from a Kauri beam from an old demolished building, built circa 1916. After turning, the wing was carved in a Koru shape and forms a graceful curve. The Puriri bowl is “suspended” from the wing and “floats” above the surface. As a woodturner, it’s always a magic moment when you take an old dry piece of Puriri and start to turn it. You never know what the grain will look like. In this case, it was even better than I had hoped for with glorious streaks and twists!
This Kauri & Puriri Bowl is finished with a natural beeswax polish that we make ourselves from wax from our own hives. This nourishes and protects the wood and enhances the natural beauty of the woodgrain.
