A unique bowl turned through the charred natural surface of an old Totara post
Artistic Wood Pieces, Art Pieces
Description
This Totara Post Turned Bowl shows off the intriguing contrasts of the smooth turned areas and weathered exterior, the red/brown and charred black, and the circular bowl in a rectangular block. Added to this, the wavy end grain is displayed in all its glory.
Totara Post Turned Bowl The piece started as a discarded Totara fence post picked up from a local farm. The preparation, charring and turning process is labour intensive, but it was great to take this rough post and reveal the beautiful grain and colour inside. I guarantee you will pick it up and look at from every angle, stroke it and feel the differences in texture. It will evoke a comfortable nostalgia for the solidness of the past, along with a warm smile as you take in the beautiful grain and colour. All of this makes this a unique piece.
The beautifully smooth surfaces are finished with a food-safe beeswax polish (that we make ourselves from wax from our own hives) to nourish, enhance and protect the natural beauty of the wood. The charred natural texture has been polished with a cloth so that it won’t leave you with charcoal on your fingers!
Use it as a bowl or stand it on its end and display it as an art piece. Either way, you’ll treasure it.
